Why, Yes: I Have Been Dead
I am still using my old comp. It no longer has that problem I wrote about last post. Because I had to reinstall Windows. And lose everything I wasn’t able (read 95% of everything) to back up.
And I’ve been sick.
Life is- icky. More later. Promise.
Miss you all!
Anne
I Don’t Know WHY I Am Accursed By God
The slower comp I am being forced to use is now hit by the Curse- it has a major problem. It will now no longer boot up in normal mode properly. That is, no icons, no taskbar, nothing I can use. Just the desktop picture.
UNLESS I boot into safe mode first, then come out. Then it will sometimes work. Except for today- when I went into safe mode, and the machine just BLINK and reset. So I let it boot into normal mode. And it worked ! So I start up my normal prog-
BLINK and it reset. So now I am back into safe mode, and wondering when it might (will) BLINK again. Now, all this MIGHT be a software problem, but then again, it might be (NO! NO! NOOOOO!) a hardware problem, in which case, I might be soon down to a 600 mghz win98 machine I have.
WHICH I have to boot using a SafeDisk.
Fuck. MY life is just is just fucked right now, when it comes to a ton of things. not just computers.
Worse Than I Could Have Imagined
I am still in shock. Yesterday I was given the news that my computer is not just temporarily down, it’s- down. Dead. Need a new one.
The BIOS/CMOS damage is done in a bad, unstoppable cycle. Can’t fix the BIOX because the CMOS is damaged, and can’t fix the CMOS because the BIOS is broke. Anyway, no way to flash a new BIOS in. It the BIOS/CMOS is busted. Broke.
And they don’t make the 939 pin motherboards anymore. Yay. Which also means I need a new cpu, since it’s a 939 pin cpu. And the RAM dimms i have were basically made for a 939 pin motherboard.
So, because I need new mobo, new cpu, new RAM, I am looking at an expenditure of at LEAST $400. And Rudy told me, with actual sadness, “Babe, I love you, but we can’t afford $400.”
So right now I have the broken comp with 2 SATA drives I can’t use but are both packed with 223 gigs of WONDERFUL software, and this approx 6 yr. old compaq all-in-one, 512 megs ram and 64 untouchable in system video ram.
I am in- shock still. And terrible depression.
p.s. rudy has been so sick he hasn’t been able to pursue refinancing, and we HAVE to have the house refinanced by the end of the month, but he won’t let me help on it. we are possible fucked in so many ways i just don’t know what to do.
There Must Be A Major Hardware Problem
hovering inside my main comp- and I just keep fixing the symptoms, leaving the problem, snickering to itself, untouched. This HAS to be the situation.
I have an intermittant BSOD going on with my comp. About once a week, BLAP. Lose everything, and the comp restarts after scaring the shit out of me.
This time, however… oh yes, this time…
My machine can’t restart. My CMOS got zapped. And my system wants to fix it, but new comps don’t have a floppy drive, so…
What is SUPPOSED to happen is my comp looks for a floppy drive, can’t find it, looks for the CD-ROM drive, goes “Ah, yes!” and re-flashes my BIOS.
Ha. Eh ha ha. Ha.
Instead, my comp says:
113-A99931-00 RV570GT BIOS 702m/581e
Boot Block Compatible Version Ver .009
Bad BIOS checksum. Starting BIOS Recovery…
And that’s that. I have my motherboard CD in the drive, but it never looks there.
And my computer-store owning brother-in-law is so busy that if I took my comp in to him to fix, who KNOWS when I would get it back.
So I gots to wait and hope. Eventually he’ll get un-busy and be able to take a look and fix it. I just hope he doesnt’t go looking on my drives for the various ISOs and vore pornography…
Sigh. The life of a middle aged mother.
Anne
P.S. Lucky me, although. I have a second winXP machone that I can use while I am waiting. This one is… well, S…L…O…W… is to be kind. While it is a 2.08 ghz 2800++ AMD chip, and that’s not bad, it only has 512 megs RAM, and 64 megs of that is UnTouchable video RAM. And while normally that’s a little slow with winXP, sp3 has come out semi-recently, and that makes winXPsp3 S . . . L . . . O . . . W . . .
Oh happy days.
